It's wild to think that it's been over a decade since Dante's Inferno burst onto the scene. I remember being completely blown away by its over-the-top action and, let's be honest, the sheer audacity of adapting such a classic piece of literature into a visceral video game. But did you know a sequel was planned? Apparently, EA had every intention of continuing Dante's journey, this time through the realm of Purgatory. The folks at Visceral Games (R.I.P.) were hard at work brainstorming and conceptualizing what that journey would look like, expanding the combat system. I always felt like the first game had so much untapped potential. The idea of moving on to Purgatory, with its entirely different set of sins and challenges, sounds incredible. It could’ve been a chance to really deepen the story and mechanics, maybe even add some moral ambiguity. The cancellation of Dante's Inferno 2 stings, not just because the first game was a memorable experience, but because the potential for a truly unique action franchise was there. Who knows, maybe one day someone will resurrect the idea. Until then, we can only imagine what could have been.
