Venture into a Hand-Drawn Dungeon: The Secret of Weepstone Announced!
Hey everyone! I've got some exciting news for those of you who, like me, are total suckers for old-school RPGs and a unique art style. DreadXP and Talesworth Game Studio just dropped the bomb: they're teaming up to bring us The Secret of Weepstone, a hand-drawn, black-and-white dungeon crawler that looks like it was ripped straight from the pages of a vintage D&D campaign.
Imagine this: it's 2026 (yeah, we've got a bit of a wait), and you're diving headfirst into a world that feels both nostalgic and eerily new. The game's set in Weepstone, a village that's seen better days. The Lord of Weepstone is haunted, the land is barren, and it's up to the ordinary townsfolk – that's you and me – to figure out what's going on. Forget heroic knights; this is about survival, plain and simple.
The art style, inspired by those classic tabletop RPGs from the 70s and 80s, is what really grabbed my attention. I'm talking striking black and white visuals that bring a grim, dark-fantasy vibe to life. I mean, who doesn't love a good dungeon crawl with a unique visual twist?
What to Expect
So, what can you actually do in The Secret of Weepstone? Well, you'll be rolling dice for combat, leveling up your party, finding cool new gear, and battling all sorts of hand-drawn baddies. But here's the kicker: death isn't the end. When your characters bite the dust (and they probably will), you'll gain "Mortal Favors," which sounds like a pretty interesting mechanic. You can lead a party of up to eight members, made up of villagers, adventurers, and maybe even a heretic or two. Sounds like a blast!
If you're heading to PAX West 2025, you'll be able to get your hands on a demo. For the rest of us, we'll just have to sit tight and wait for 2026. I, for one, am pretty hyped. This looks like a great way to dive into something different in the RPG landscape. And honestly, after seeing so many high-budget titles, a black and white indie game inspired by old school RPGs feels really refreshing.
Keep your eyes peeled for more updates, and let me know what you think in the comments. Are you excited about The Secret of Weepstone, or is this one you're gonna pass on? I'm really curious to hear your thoughts!
