Tomb Raider's Future on Switch? Aspyr Hints at More Ports After 2013's Success
So, the 2013 Tomb Raider reboot has finally landed on the Switch, and the folks over at Aspyr, who handled the port, are pretty stoked about the reception. They're hinting that we might just see the other two games from the trilogy, Rise of the Tomb Raider and Shadow of the Tomb Raider, make their way to Nintendo's console as well.
For those who haven't been following along, the rebooted Tomb Raider trilogy tells the story of a young, inexperienced Lara Croft as she transforms into the iconic adventurer we all know and love. It starts with her shipwrecked on Yamatai, then takes her to the frozen landscapes of Siberia in Rise, and finally plunges her into the dense jungles of South America in Shadow.
When asked about the possibility of bringing Rise and Shadow to the Switch, Aspyr mentioned that they've already brought the classic Tomb Raider games (1-6) to modern Nintendo platforms. They can't make any promises just yet, but they did say that the positive response to the 2013 port is definitely encouraging them to explore the option.
If you ask me, it's a no-brainer. The Switch is a great platform for these kinds of adventure games, and it would be awesome to have the entire Survivor trilogy on one console. I mean, who wouldn't want to explore those amazing locations on the go?
But that's not all! Besides the Switch port, there's even more Tomb Raider goodness on the horizon. During The Game Awards, they announced two new games! A remake of the original Tomb Raider, called Legacy of Atlantis, is coming next year. Then, in 2027, we're getting a brand-new entry in the series called Tomb Raider: Catalyst, which will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Steam. So much to look forward to, isn't it?
And if you're craving even more Lara Croft content, there's an Amazon live-action show in the works, with filming starting next month. Sophie Turner is set to play Lara, and Sigourney Weaver and Jason Isaacs are also on board. With so much Tomb Raider content coming our way, it feels like the perfect time to be a fan!
