Threads of Time: Retro RPG Inspired by Chrono Trigger Shows New Gameplay
Hey everyone! I've got some exciting news for you RPG fans out there. Remember Chrono Trigger? Well, a new game called Threads of Time is looking to capture that same magic, and it's got a brand-new gameplay trailer that's seriously impressive.
Developed by Riyo Games, Threads of Time throws you into a journey that spans across different eras, from prehistoric times to a cyberpunk-ish future. The game's art style reminds me a bit of Octopath Traveler with its HD-2D look. One moment you're exploring a medieval town, and the next you're in a futuristic city with flying cars – talk about a wild ride!
I was really impressed with the battle system. While it's turn-based, it feels super dynamic, somewhere between Octopath Traveler and Dragon Quest. Characters fight in the foreground and background, which gives battles a real sense of depth. Hopefully, the character designs can be more original and less Chrono Trigger-like.
Speaking of Chrono Trigger, it's the game's 30th anniversary! While Square Enix hasn't announced a remake or remaster, Threads of Time seems like it will scratch that retro RPG itch while we wait. And if you still want more of these games, I recommend you to play Sea of Stars.
There's no release date yet, but it's expected to come out on PC. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it lives up to the hype!
