Subnautica 2: First In-Game Footage Surfaces, Early Access Incoming!
Unknown Worlds has finally given fans a first look at in-game footage of the highly anticipated Subnautica 2. This reveal came as part of a new developer video, outlining the "road to early access" for the underwater survival sequel.
While a cinematic trailer was released last October hinting at the new co-op mode, this new footage offers a much-desired peek at the actual gameplay.
Glimpse into the Deep
The developer video, titled "Road to Early Access," features Anthony Gallegos, the design lead for Subnautica 2, showcasing early environments and creatures. Players can expect to see areas reminiscent of the original game's Safe Shallows, but on a brand-new world.
The video also teases a bioluminescent underground area and introduces some of the new aquatic life. Keep an eye out for the waddling creature with a fan-like tail and a large fish with a penchant for headbutting rocks. Co-operative swimming and base-building mechanics were also briefly shown.
While the footage is brief, it offers a tantalizing glimpse of what's to come in Subnautica 2.
Early Access and Beyond
Although an exact early access release date remains unannounced, Unknown Worlds has confirmed Subnautica 2 is slated to launch "later" this year on Xbox Series X/S and PC (via Steam and Epic Games Store). The game will also be available on Game Pass.
The initial early access release is expected to include the co-op multiplayer mode, several distinct biomes, narrative elements, and a range of creatures and craftable items. The development team anticipates that early access will last for approximately two to three years, allowing ample time for the game to evolve and expand based on player feedback.
Stay tuned for more updates as Unknown Worlds continues on the road to early access for Subnautica 2!
