Silksong's Domino Effect: How Its Release Date Impacted Other Games
So, Hollow Knight: Silksong finally got a release date, huh? It feels like we've been waiting forever! The hype was real, judging by the crazy lines at Gamescom. September 4th is the day, and I can't wait to get my hands on it!
However, the sudden announcement so close to the launch date, only two weeks, didn't sit well with a bunch of other games. Imagine planning your release for early September, and then BAM! Silksong drops. Do you stick to your guns or run for cover?
For some, it's an easy call. Silksong is an indie gem, so big-budget titles like "Hell is Us" probably aren't sweating too much. I reckon shooters and games in totally different genres are safe too. But if you're another indie game, especially a Metroidvania, things get a bit trickier. The "Silksong effect" is real, and it hit hard!
Lots of indie devs decided to shift their launch dates. Games like "Demonschool" and "Baby Steps" bailed pretty quickly, pushing their releases back a few weeks. The guys behind "Dorfromantik" also moved their new game, "Star Birds." It felt like every day, someone else was changing plans because of Silksong.
The Great Indie Exodus of September 2025
Instead of listing every single delay, I thought I'd just give you the rundown of who moved and when. Check this out:
- Lord Ambermaze: September 2nd -> September 17th (They literally said "guess why lol")
- Demonschool: September 3rd -> November 19th
- Comfy Girl: September 3rd -> October 8th
- CloverPit: September 3rd -> September 26th ("Risk the launch a fair bit")
- Kejora: September 4th -> January 2026
- Star Birds: September 4th -> September 10th
- Little Witch in the Woods: September 4th -> September 15th ("Disappoint our devoted audience")
- Moros Protocol: September 4th -> September 18th
- Baby Steps: September 8th -> September 23rd
- Faeland: September 9th -> TBD ("Attention and care that it deserves")
- Aeterna Lucis: September 18th -> 2026 ("I’ll get to enjoy #Silksong just like any other fan")
- Megabonk: -> September 18th ("UH OH MEGABONK DELAY")
Then you have the brave souls who are sticking to their guns. Games like "Metal Eden", "Hirogami", and "Hell is Us" are still launching around the same time. "Hirogami" even declared that their date is "staying exactly where it is."
I'll try to keep this list updated if any other games decide to move. But I want to know what you think! Are you hyped for Silksong? Did this news mess with your own gaming plans, or are you not that fussed?
