Routine: 80s Space Horror still alive and nearing release!
Okay, so I stumbled upon some news that seriously made my inner sci-fi geek do a little dance. Remember Routine? That super atmospheric, 80s-inspired space horror game that was revealed way back in 2012? Well, it's still alive! After what feels like an eternity, the awesome team at Lunar Software has finally dropped an update.
For those of you who weren't glued to the internet back then, Routine throws you onto a lunar base that's gone completely bonkers. Think creepy robots, dimly lit corridors, and a serious lack of oxygen. You get a scanner that looks like a retro Macintosh, but trust me, it won't save you from those saw-toothed bots.
The team joined forces with Raw Fury back in 2022, but then went silent so they could focus on the task.
What's New?
The devs are keeping tight-lipped on the exact release date, which is totally understandable. I appreciate that they don't want to announce anything until they're absolutely sure they can deliver. They've learned from the past! They did mention, though, that they're getting close to the finish line, so keep your eyes peeled for more news soon.
Also, there's been a change on the audio front. Mick Gordon, the legendary composer behind Doom, had to step away from the project due to scheduling conflicts. Bummer, I know! But the team was quick to point out that Mick left behind a ton of amazing audio assets that will definitely be making their way into the final game. So, his influence is still very much present.
After its re-reveal a few years ago, comparisons were drawn with other space horrors like Fort Solis and The Callisto Protocol. I can't lie, I wasn't blown away by either of those.
Anyway, I'm genuinely excited to see what Lunar Software has been cooking up all these years.
