Obsidian Focuses on Original Games and Sequels, Even With Fans Eager for Fallout: New Vegas 2
Obsidian Entertainment, the studio behind beloved RPGs like Fallout: New Vegas and The Outer Worlds, knows the drill. Every time they tease a new project, the internet explodes with one question: "New Vegas 2 when?" They're totally aware of the hype, and while they appreciate the love for their past work, it seems they're also keen on forging new paths.
What's cool is that Obsidian has a real knack for creating original worlds and stories. I mean, look at Pillars of Eternity or Avowed. These aren't just rehashes of existing IPs; they're fresh, imaginative, and full of the kind of player choice and reactivity that Obsidian is known for. And it sounds like Microsoft, their parent company, is on board with this approach.
This is a smart move, in my opinion. While revisiting established universes can be lucrative, constantly relying on nostalgia can stifle creativity. Obsidian has proven time and again that they can build compelling worlds from scratch, and I'm excited to see what they come up with next. I think that they should make the games they want to make, right?
Ultimately, it's a win-win. Obsidian gets to explore new creative avenues, and we get a steady stream of unique and engaging RPGs. Of course, that doesn't mean we should give up hope for a potential New Vegas sequel someday. After all, never say never, right?
