Oblivion Remastered Smashes Sales Records
The remastered version of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion had a phenomenal launch. In just one week, it outperformed the original game's sales over its first 15 months, becoming the best-selling game in the US for April 2025. This is a truly remarkable achievement, especially considering the significant increase in the available player base since Oblivion's initial release in 2006.
April's Top Performers
April's sales charts reveal some interesting trends. Forza Horizon 5 saw a massive boost after its PS5 launch, jumping to second place. Other notable titles in the top 10 included Minecraft (boosted by its movie release), Assassin's Creed: Shadows, and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, also benefiting from PS5 releases. Microsoft games dominated the PlayStation charts, holding four out of the top five spots.
The Last of Us: Part 2 experienced a resurgence, likely fueled by the second season of its popular TV show. Interestingly, while Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 performed well physically, its digital sales weren't included in the report, impacting its overall chart position. Despite this, its physical sales alone placed it among the top 35 best-selling games of April.
Overall Market Trends
Overall, April 2025 saw a slight decrease in consumer spending on video games compared to the previous year. Hardware sales were particularly down, reaching their lowest point since July 2020. However, the PS5 remained the top-selling console, despite a year-over-year drop. The Xbox Series consoles bucked the trend, showing an 8% increase in sales.
