Helldivers 2: Dive into Illuminate-Twisted Cities – A Galactic War Turns Urban!
Remember when we were scrambling to defend Super Earth from those pesky Illuminate in Helldivers 2? Well, there's a new twist in the Galactic War that makes all that effort worthwhile. A fresh major order sends players into cities that have been warped by the Illuminate. You won't believe your eyes!
Right now, urban warfare is the name of the game. Our brave Helldivers have just fought off a massive bug invasion targeting several cities. Now, they're diving headfirst into a new challenge: rescuing innocent citizens who might have already been, shall we say, squidified.
Illuminate's Twisted Creations
Apparently, the Illuminate survivors of the recent defeat have taken control of two planets, Alairt III and Alamak VII, and reshaped their cities into something straight out of a sci-fi horror movie. Think Xenomorph vibes, but with more tentacles.
According to the briefing, our once-familiar metropolises have undergone some "unsanctioned re-engineering." The fate of the millions trapped within these altered cityscapes remains uncertain. It's highly probable that they've been converted into hostile biological assets, which means: shoot first, ask questions later (probably).
Those trapped citizens seem to be encased in pod-like structures scattered throughout the transformed cities. Players are finding these eerie pods lining the sides of ruined skyscrapers. It's a chilling sight. Some players have even reported seeing structures that resemble the Illuminate beacons from the original Helldivers game.
If those beacons are indeed what they seem, it could foreshadow a potential attempt by the Illuminate to call in reinforcements after their failure to capture or destroy the Helldivers' home planet. Whatever the case, Arrowhead seems to have rediscovered its knack for introducing exciting and unpredictable challenges.
I've seen some minor complaints about the gameplay feeling repetitive in Reddit threads, but they are few and far between. Visually striking and inventive settings have always been a key ingredient in keeping Helldivers 2 fresh and engaging, especially between major updates. Remember the infamous Malevelon Creek? So, it's great to see the developers doubling down on this approach.
Furthermore, the timing couldn't be better for fighting the Illuminate again. The recent patch included a free cape celebrating the previous victory over them. Just a word of advice: maybe hold off on the victory emotes until you're out of Leviathan firing range!
