Dragon Quest 7 Remake: Square Enix Reportedly Working on a Full Overhaul
Okay, so here's the scoop. Word on the street is that Square Enix might be cooking up something special: a full-blown remake of Dragon Quest 7. Yeah, you heard that right! Not just a fancy HD upgrade, but a complete overhaul. If this is true, the original PS1 game is getting a major glow-up.
Apparently, the success of the Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake gave them the push they needed to revisit another classic. And when I say remake, they seem to mean *remake*. It's more than just shinier graphics. We are talking potentially rebuilt mechanics, a revamped world, and maybe even new story elements.
The current talk indicates the game is aiming for an early 2026 release. That's not exactly around the corner, but hey, good things take time, right? I'd rather wait for a polished, amazing experience than get a rushed product any day.
Been There, Remade That
Now, if you're thinking, "Wait, hasn't Dragon Quest 7 been remade before?" you're right! It got a 3DS remake, "Fragments of the Forgotten Past," with some cool changes like visible enemies. But a new remake would be bigger, better, and more modern. It would be great to see it on current-gen consoles.
Speaking of what *is* confirmed, don't forget that the Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake is coming to pretty much everything – Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC – this October. I'm definitely looking forward to jumping back into those classics with a fresh coat of paint! It's great they're doing this, because not all gamers have had the opportunity to experience Dragon Quest in all of its glory.
Of course, Square Enix hasn't officially announced the Dragon Quest 7 remake yet, so take this all with a grain of salt. But where there's smoke, there's usually fire, right? I know I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for any official announcements. I'll let you know as soon as I hear something!
