Drag x Drive on Switch 2 Appears to Lack Local Multiplayer: A Missed Opportunity?

Sports

So, Nintendo's new wheelchair basketball game, Drag x Drive, is coming out soon, and I was pretty hyped when I first heard about it. However, there's some news that might bum you out if you were planning any couch co-op sessions.

While we got a release date recently, digging into the game's eShop page on the Switch 2 revealed a potential limitation: it looks like local multiplayer is a no-go. Yeah, I know, that's a bit of a downer. It will cost £16.99 in the UK, and supports up to 12 players online. When you think about it, it seems like such a missed opportunity, right?

Basically, only one player per Switch 2 console can play. So, even if you've got extra Joy-Cons lying around, you and your buddies won't be able to team up for some local basketball madness. It seems like the focus is entirely on online play, which is cool and all, but sometimes you just want that face-to-face gaming experience, you know?

The game was first revealed back in April, and they mentioned using the Switch 2's motion controls to steer, speed up, and even pull off tricks. It sounds like it could be a really unique way to play. While I am curious about the game, it would be nice to play offline with some friends.

Drag x Drive is launching on August 14th as an eShop exclusive. Hopefully, Nintendo will clarify their plans for multiplayer soon. Fingers crossed for a future update that adds local support!
