Avowed's Anniversary Update: New Races and Big Magic Sticks!
So, Avowed just got a massive shot in the arm with its anniversary update, and I'm honestly excited. If you're like me, always itching to dive back into Eora, this update is the perfect excuse. I mean, who can resist new ways to wreak havoc?
What’s the big deal? Well, besides the usual bug fixes and tweaks, we're talking about some serious additions to character customization and gameplay. Obsidian initially planned to launch this content last year, but it seems the wait was worth it.
Fresh Faces in Eora
The coolest part? Three new races are joining the party: dwarves, orlans, and aumaua. I think everyone knows what a Dwarf is, right? Orlans, those short, hairy, pointy-eared guys from Pillars of Eternity. And Aumaua? Huge, sometimes scaly, like Kai, one of Avowed's most remarkable companion characters.
Each race brings something unique to the table. Dwarves get a boost to might and constitution, making them sturdy little powerhouses. Orlans benefit from perception and resolve, perfect for sneaky or persuasive characters. And Aumaua? They’re all about that raw strength with a plus two to might. Personally, I'm leaning towards an Orlan playthrough; there’s just something appealing about a small, perceptive character with a knack for getting out of (or into) trouble.
However, the update’s new weapon is perfect for an angry little ball of deadliness.
Big Stick Energy
Speaking of new ways to play, let's talk about the quarterstaff. Obsidian describes it as a "bludgeoning weapon that comes complete with wand style stun finishers." How awesome is that? It's perfect for mages who want a bit more oomph in their attacks. Imagine roleplaying a mage with a serious ego, wielding a staff that's as much a weapon as it is a focus for their spells. A small character, possibly with furry ears, wielding a magic staff—the possibilities for crazy situations are endless.
Avowed’s anniversary update also introduces a New Game Plus mode, so you can replay the game with your souped-up character and keep the carnage going. And if you're into capturing those epic moments, there's now a photo mode. Imagine snapping shots of your dwarf mage as they smash through enemies with their staff. Pure gold.
In conclusion, I think this update is the jump Avowed needed. I can't wait to see what kind of crazy characters and builds people come up with now!
